This is a sample of a sales and operations consulting bid. This would be a small portion of the sales and operations plan. When putting together a plan, we need to look at our current products and see if there are any additional markets and industries that our products can move into.

Grandparents love being a part of the newborn baby’s life. By including grandparents within the baby care cycle, the Honest Company has a huge opportunity to edge out long-established brands that the grandparents used, that may not be up to momma’s current standards.

I used several of the Honest Company’s products when I was taking care of my geriatric dog buddy and my geriatric father, before both passed away. I had to do first aid, baths, and sometimes I just didn't want to do a full bath every day, so I chose to do a wipe down with the Honest Company's baby wipes or large Johnson & Johnson body wipes using mild cleanser and baby shampoo. Most of the time, the large body wipes were hard to find and when I found them, they were expensive. I also used dreft baby detergent on my father's clothes, because of the daily incontinence accidents.

Since I already had to give 20 medications multiple times a day, the last thing I wanted to worry about was there any additional chemicals within the wipes & detergents that might interact with all the other medications?

I love Jessica Alba's company and their products.

When I have children, as long as the quality stays the same, I will continue using her products with my littles. The honest company believes in and supports the success of diversity, equity, and inclusion... and Jessica and I both grew up in the same neighborhood. I applied for a job with the company and did not get the job, so this is a freebee.

I analyzed honest company's available online products, then developed opportunities from there.

If I were consulting or an employee of The Honest Company, then I would also review any past or current products in their product development, sales pipelines, or R&D department. This is where you can find out what products were developed, what worked, what didn't and is there anything we can do to change or reformulate from the past or do we start fresh and create new ideas.

Sometimes past product launches are not successful because they have flaws such as they don't exactly meet the targeted consumer's expectations, it may be the product, it may be the packaging, product placement, sometimes it is timing, sometimes it is outside of our internal company's control similar to uncontrollable forces like competitors targeting your company's growth through lawsuits or timely placed negative reviews. That is life. Accept the honest truth. Fix what you can fix, focus on making the best product that your company can make and move on.

My successful experiences with product development and execution used a modified agile product development (APD) approach. APD was originally created for software, but I used the same idea to speed up product development with consumer-packaged goods and also with software integration at the University of Southern California. Then I applied the same APD approach again with mobile application and software with Uber Eats.

APD allows the company to produce a product, service, or product line that meets or exceeds their customer’s expectations while ensuring that the final product launch is successful via increased revenues, increased market share, and increased customer satisfaction. The benefits of APD include reduced risk, improved value quality, collaboration and continuous testing, faster time to market, enhanced project control, increased employee input, more responsive to customer feedback, higher job satisfaction, and better risk management (Upwork team upwork.com).

Product Development:

To do an accurate cost analysis of the Honest Company's operations, I would need access to internal information. However, from a business leader’s perspective, the product development costs should be similar to current products and dependent on leadership's allocation of previous product development shared costs throughout the organization. With that being said, all new consumer packaged goods should be easy to develop, as each item has a baby counterpart in the Honest Company's current listed product lines. Meaning, low costs for product development (if the costs were accounted for, in their prior counterpart's product development cycles).

The only real costs should be minor changes in the ingredients to account for different skin types (babies vs. adults vs. geriatric vs. pets), packaging changes, quality insurance, and distribution. Pets have different biological systems than humans, thus their systems can react to different toxins and ingredients.

Sales Tip:
The customized ingredients are a sales point for marketing and strategy sales plans.
